Director News!

We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Joe Baleto and Chris Hannemann as the new directors of Mercer Island Volleyball Club. “Joe and Chris intend to take this club to a whole new level and I’m excited to see it happen” – said Elise Quinn who founded the club in in 2010.

Athletes in the Seattle Bellevue area have great potential and with the direction of these top ranking coaches, a stronger and more competitive volleyball community will grow in King County.

Joe and Chris will offer practice and age divisions in Mercer Island, West Seattle, and possibly other areas of King County all in an effort to create more opportunity for driven junior athletes. Because they will branch off to other areas in the King County Community, the club name will change from Mercer Island Volleyball Club to Dakine. By bringing in their sand club, athletes can train for a college career in both sand and/or court right here with one club and throughout the seasons.

This conditioning class will be taught by Juliana Frederich. She has been training and coaching since 2006, when she graduated from the University of New Mexico with a B.S. in Exercise Science. She is an ACSM and Crossfit certified personal trainer and has been coaching volleyball and track for Mercer Island High School since 2010. Having played sports her whole life, Juli greatly enjoys working with athletes. She specializes in plyometrics and movements requiring agility and fast twitch muscle fiber recruitment. Juli also has experience in the rehab setting, having worked in a physical therapy clinic. She  feels that part of the importance of sports conditioning lies in the ability to help prevent injury as well as increase sports performance by improving balance, coordination, strength, and physical literacy. Juli continues to stay active playing competitive beach volleyball, weightlifting, running, and hiking. This will prove to be a valuable program for the athletes of MIVC.

Our Coaching Philosophy We are committed to providing an experience that will give each player an opportunity to excel.  Our entire club practices at the same time in the same gym which enables our coaching team to run specialized clinics within practice time and advance fundamental skills with the specialties of each coach. This gives us the opportunity to train each athlete to become a better volleyball player.  When a player needs extra help and guidance our job is to teach, show, and practice.  One-on-one training will also be utilized within practice time to give the player skilled focus and we believe that’s needed to succeed.
